Protest at Ughelli North Local Councill
A perceived attempt to cancel an oil pipeline surveillance contract in an oil producing community of Delta state is leading to widespread protests within the community of oil pipeline OML 30 that, if it is not contain, will lead to serious human and material casualties.
The protesters especially youths are afraid that the cancellation of the oil pipeline surveillance contract will lead to job losses and restiveness in the communities resulting in crime and criminal activities.
The protesters over the weekend took their protest to the local government council headquarters in Ughelli North Council Secretariat and the Palace of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom. There they registered their displeasure concerning the vexed issues while calling for immediate intervention before the matter escalates.

Another contending issue which they protested against was the attempt to remove the Chairman of the Community Development Board for OML 30 Mr Morrison Idiowu when his tenure has not yet expired.
The protesters were received by the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area Mr Godwin Adode who urged them to maintain law and order in the course of the protest assuring them that their petitions would be a channel to the appropriate quarters for necessary action.
The leader of the two days protests on Friday and Saturday, Mr Samuel Oghotomo told the Ughelli Council Chairman of an attempt to hijack the chairmanship of the community for OML 30 even when his tenure has not expired.

He re-iterated the resolved of the Urhobo ethnic group to resist any attempt to forcefully take the position from them and dismantle the surveillance contract already awarded to the community insisting that such brazen action would result in an impasse in the communities hosting the OML 30.
Oghotomo observed that the OML 30 communities have been peaceful and in harmony during the governance of Mr Idiowu as the communities are quite satisfied and happy with his style of leadership and vision for the people and wondered why some people would want to remove a popular and capable leadership already in place.
