A coordinated search has commenced to fish out and prosecute the masterminds and killers of a divisional police officer and other three cops during a daredevil attack on a police station in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa state.
The attack which has attracted an uproar in the country, unfortunately, claimed the life of pregnant police officer who was on duty on the ill-fated Monday.
Reliable sources confirmed that a crack team of detectives from force headquarters, Abuja have already arrived the state to commence the investigations and that no stone will be left upturn towards unraveling the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
The public has been urged to give any useful information to the police that would lead to the arrest of the murderers.
It was gathered that the detectives have swung into action and they are working together with those in the Bayelsa state police command. Evidence and leads are being scrutinised and analyses and it is the belief that very soon a positive outcome will emerge.
It would be recalled that unknown gunmen in the early hours of Monday attacked the Agudama/ Ekpetiama Police Station in Yenogoa killing four officers. The gunmen were said to have carted away rifles, ammunition, and police uniform from the station in an operation that lasted for one hour.
A Dangerous Gunman
Many eminent personalities including notable politicians in Bayelsa state and beyond has condemned the attacks and the killings of innocent police officers describing it as senseless and barbaric. They have equally called on the government to rise up and fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
The Bayelsa state governor Seriake Dickson had already issued a statement condemning the attack while calling on the federal government to tackle the security situation in the country. He lamented the fact that the issue of security is out of the hands of state government hence they are very little the state government can do.
A notable People Democratic PDP stalwarts and a governorship aspirant in the forthcoming election Mr. Keniebi Okoko condemned the attack as being wicked and callous. According to him, such attacks should not be heard of in a civilized society.
He strongly urged the police, the Department of State Security DSS and other security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the act and bring them to justice. He equally calls on the residents of the estate to volunteer useful information which would lead to the arrest of the culprits.
According to him “It is unfortunate and indeed sad that the four security agents were gruesomely murdered while serving their fatherland. Our heartfelt condolences go to the families of the deceased.
“While we mourned these great men and woman, who paid the supreme price for their country, we must not also forget to seize the moment to say that the government must ensure that incidents like this do not become a regular occurrence.
