New Police Boss, Jelel, Governor Wike, Deputy Governor Banigo

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, has accused the immediate past Commissioner of Police of  Rivers state Police Commissioner Zaki Ahmed for colluding and working hand in hand with hired thugs and criminals to destabilize the state.


Wike made the remark when he gave a detailed narration of the various actions and inactions of the former police boss which informed his believed. Wike told the new police boss that his predecessor did not treat the state fairly hence his stay in the state was a curse rather than a blessing.

Belel, who was recently redeployed to Rivers, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House on Tuesday.

Wike told the CP that the public are disillusioned and losing faith in public institutions because of the unprofessional conduct of their personnel.

Gov Wike Welcomes New Police Boss

According to Wike, the Army, the Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have failed to carry out their responsibilities in line with approved professional ethics because of perceived corruption and urged the new police boss to rise above this vices that have kept the country down.

According to him only improvement in performance of assigned duty can assuage the people and restore this lost faith back.

“I believe that as the new Police Commissioner, you will work for the confidence in the Police to return. “Your predecessor allowed himself to be used by thugs to invade the courts in Rivers State.

“The Chief Justice of Nigeria called for the investigation and prosecution of those that invaded the courts, but Zaki Ahmed refused.

A Show of Goodwill by Gov Wike

“Rivers State will not forget that it was Zaki Ahmed’s time that thugs invaded the Rivers State High Court, which is located near the Police Headquarters. He didn’t bring anybody to book.”

According to Governor Wike, this is one of the several abominable acts committed against the state by the ex- police boss.
