Speaker Oborevwori & Gov Okowa

Rt. Hon Sherriff Oborevwori, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly is living by example. He has shown the required direction and leadership which is worthy of emulation by all the members of Houses of Assemblies in the Niger Delta region.

Last week the speaker gave out scholarships to about 15 indigent indigenes and non-indigenes resident in Okpe local government area running into millions of naira for the 2018/2019 academic session.

Speaking during the scholarship award ceremony held at Orerokpe, the Speaker explained that the scholarship is designed to give an opportunity to bright and intelligent students whose talent and skills would have been lost due to lack of financial support.

He disclosed that the scholarship is given to indigenes and non-indigenes under the auspices of the oborevwori Foundation Scholarship Scheme. Each beneficiary of the scholarship scheme is entitled to N 200,000 naira each.

Reeling out some of the achievements of the foundations during its short lifespan the Speaker said “on the 24th of June 2018, the foundation rescue Master Chigozie Godstime, a 12 years old boy who was severely abused by his uncle Mr. Ifeanyi Akpa at Osubi” the boy was subsequently awarded scholarship to study through secondary school to university level.

“I wish to advise all recipient of Sherrif Oborevwori Foundation to make good use of this opportunity to create a better future for themselves. Education is certainly the bedrock of any society and the hope of any nation lies in the education of its youth,” stressed oborevwori.

The Speaker promised to continue to render assistance to residents in his constituency declaring it as part of proceeds of democracy. “I promise to continue to strive to deliver dividends of democracy to our people.

“It is my pleasure to inform you that about 20,000 exercise books are to be given out to our students in Okpe local government area by the Oborevwori Foundation Scholarship/Bursary Committee in January.

“I will continue to do everything to encourage the education of our people. The examination for the applicants was very fair and credible. Okpe indigenes did very well in the examination where qualified students were picked and I am proud of our people. I am encouraged by the situation report of the committee.

An Abused and Brutalised Boy Rescued by the Speaker

“I will continue to be neutral in the activities of the committee. I want to place it on record that I have been giving out bursary unannounced for so many years now.  But this is the first time I am making it public and with God helping me I will continue to support more and more students to get an education, He added.
