An Oil Palm Mills

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Developmet Commission NDDC Mr. Nsima Ekere has assured the women and people of Ikot Ekpene senatorial districts of Akwa Ibom State that 4 pilot agricultural mills is set to be establish in each of the four federal constituencies making up the senatorial district in the zone.

Ekere stated this when the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Women Forum paid him a courtesy visit in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital. The NDDC boss listed the 4 agricultural mills to include 3 oil palm mills and a garri processing mill.

According to the NDDC Managing Director, specifically the three 3 oil palm mills will be situated in Ukanafun, Oruk Anam axis. Another will be cited in Ikot-Ekpene, Obot Akara, Essien Udim, yet another will be in Ini, Ikono federal constituencies while the fourth which is a garri processing mill will be located at Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika local government area of the state.

Ekere also used the occasion to assured other parts of the state that the scheme will be replicated throughout the state as soon as the pilot scheme takes off.

He further reiterated the desire of the NDDC to midwife the economic and agricultural revolution in the Niger Delta by intervening in the provision of critical infrastructure which will boost output and improve the economy of the region.

While admonishing the women to be political conscious, he implored them to take an active part in the political process of the state by registering and getting their voters cards ready to enable them vote in the 2019 election.

Ekere also drummed up support for President Buhari government, by calling on the people of the state and the entire Niger Delta region to support him claiming that Buhari meant well for the state as seen in the number of political appointments made in the state.

Ekere also cited numerous projects proposed for the state by the president among which is the Calabar –Lagos coastal rail project. The Calabar- Itu dual carriageway as well as approval for the construction of a modular refinery in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.

Responding to Ekere’s speech, the president of the women forum Mrs. Ekaette Imeh commended Ekere for his immense contribution towards the growth of the All Progressive Congress APC in the state. While assuring Ekere of the support of the women in the Zone called on him to consider the women of the zone in NDDC empowerment programmes and job opportunities.
