Philomena Chishe alongside her collaborators notably Samuel Umoru, Yakubu Jekada, Daniel Agbo, Priscilla Ogunsola, and Aliyu Yakubu has been arraigned in Federal Capital Territory FCT High Court, Abuja charged with conspiracy and stealing of N36 million naira belonging to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
It would be recalled that Philomena when she was arrested with others over the whereabouts of the funds which was proceeds from JAMB e-cards sold to candidates in the Benue state, caused an uproar in the country when she claimed the money was swallowed by a mysterious snake that sneaked into the office and carted it away.
However, the EFCC would have none of such absurd defense hence her day in court to determine what really happen and the punishment she is entitled to get from the law.
EFCC Officer, Philomena with her Accomplices
The arraignment of Philomena alongside her colleagues in the snake and money saga drew a lot of interest and amusement from the public both inside and outside the court. She appeared before Justice Peter Afen who is penned as the trial judge in the matter.
The EFCC is prosecuting her and her cohorts on an eight-count charge bordering on fraud for her refusal to give the management of JAMB the correct financial status of JAMB e-cards supplied to the Benue Zonal Office between 2014 and 2016.
When the accused persons were read the charge and asked for plea they all pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them. The offense they are charged with is contrary to section 139(a) of the Penal Code Law. If convicted they will spend considerable years in prison with a lofty fine also to pay.
Philomena is not likely to persuade to the court with her fable tales of a snake swallowing N36million of JAMB’s cash as such spiritual and demonic operations and powers are not recognized by the Nigerian law. Her continued reliance on such defense will only lead her to one only destination which is the prison.
