Governor Udom Emmanuel a.k.a Mr. Industrialisation
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State is fondly referred to as Mr. Industrialisation. The establishment of industries and rapid industrialization of Akwa Ibom State is at the centre of his vision for the state. The Governor seems to focus on this vision ever since he assumed office as the Governor. He has made giant strides to change the face and character of the once civil service state to a semi- industrialised one with the inauguration of several relevant medium scale factories in the state.
The Governor started off with a five point agenda of Job creation, Poverty Alleviation, Wealth Creation, Economic and Political Inclusion, Infrastructural Consolidation and Expansion. All the five agendas are to support the major thrust of his administration vision which is the industrialization of the state. This, as envisaged will then change and transform the character of the state and diversified her economy from a mono-economy depending on allocation from crude oil sales to a multi-economy driven by industries and agriculture.

Bearing this in mind, the governor on assumption of office wasted no time in kick-starting his industrialization programme with the revamping of the Peacock Paint factory at Etinan about 4 kilometres to Uyo, the state capital. The refurbished and reinvigorated factory is now producing optimally. Also revamped and revitalized is the Plasto crown factory at Aka-Nung Udoe Road.
Since then the Governor has commissioned many other industries while more than 3 other ones are being planned for various parts of the state. The Akwa Prime Hatchery and Poultry Limited situated at Mbaya in Uruan Local Government Area of the State have been commissioned and have started operation. The Poultry factory which is a joint venture business between the state government and an Ethiopian company as technical partners is set to produce over 20,000-day old chicks a day.

Also commissioned by Governor Udom are the Akwa Ibom Pencil and Toothpicks Factory through the Akwa Ibom Entrepreneur and Enterprise Scheme (AKEES). The Factory which is located in Etinan Local Government area of the state is poised to produce over 100,000 pencils a month.
In continuation of his industrialization drive, Governor Udom recently performed the groundbreaking at the 60,000 Flour Mill in Onna local Government area. Groundbreaking was also done at the Saint Gabriel Coconut Refinery Project in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area. However, another notable industry which has commenced test running is the Jubilee Syringe Factory which sits on an 8,000 square metres land space in Onna Local Government area of the state.
The syringe factory, a subsidiary of VKS Group has started a test run of its product and this was witnessed by the Governor when he visited the factory recently to commemorate his 2 year anniversary in office. Governor Udom has also performed the groundbreaking for the establishment of an automobile assembly plant in Itu. Also performed by the Governor is the groundbreaking for the establishment of Blue Marine- Light Emitting Devices (LED) factory at Ikot Ebom Itam, Itu.
Governor Udom industrialization drive is moving at full speed and is set to make a giant mark at the end of his four years in office. It is projected that at least 10 industries would have been operational in the state by then and employing more than 5,000 people second only to the state civil service. According to Governor Udom A.K.A Mr. Industrialisation, “Our commitment to industrialization is irrevocable. We know that through industrialization, we shall rewrite the Akwa Ibom Story in employment and wealth creation”
