Governor Obaseki of Edo State

The rumour gaining ground is of imminent dumping of the All Progressives Congress APC by Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State for another party in the run-up to the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state has been confirmed by Major General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd).

Airhiavbere in Benin on Thursday revealed that all is now set for the dumping of the ruling party APC by Governor Obaseki because of his inability to secure the party ticket in the forthcoming election.

According to the retired general, the governor poor performance in office has made the national office of the result reluctant to support his second term aspirations hence his planned desperate move to decamp to another party.

He accused the governor of being the reason for the poor outing of the party in the last presidential elections and said if not for the rallying force of the national party of the party Adams Oshiomole, Edo state would have lost completely to the PDP in the Presidential election.

According to him “after that loss, the party realized that it needed the massive win from Edo North for President Muhammadu Buhari to scale through in the State”

He submitted that it is the incompetence of Obaseki as governor that is responsible for his falling out with the leaders of the party including his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole.

He Said,”The Presidential election in February gave an account of the APC political instability in the state: During that election we lost in Edo South, we lost in Edo central, only Edo North produced the percentage that was required for the president to scale through Edo state and that was the beginning of the problems of the APC coming to the public. It became clear that if we don’t do something quickly, there will be problem”

However, Governor Obaseki’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, described the allegation as false and coming from the pit of hell.

According to the Special Adviser, Governor Obaseki is performing. He is the leader of the party in the state, so who will he leave the party for? That allegation is a complete lie from the pit of hell. Governor Godwin Obaseki has a very robust relationship with the presidency and his party at the centre, he insisted.

“His party is the ruling party in the state and at the centre, so where is he leaving to and why should he leave? The good records of Obaseki cannot be compared to that of Airhiavbere. Obaseki contested for election once and he won, whereas Airhiavbere is a serial election customer.
