Dickson visits along with top government officials, a team of pharmacists, medical doctors and health officials to the drug distribution centre was in aftermath of the commencement of a two-day drug trade fair in Yenagoa.
Governor Dickson used the occasion of the trade fair to reiterate the resolve of his administration to make Bayelsa state a foremost medical tourist destination where health care seekers could meet their needs at affordable cost.
One of the ways to accomplish this according to the governor is that all public health institutions in the state will henceforth procure all their drugs and other pharmaceutical products from the centre.
Other initiatives put forward by the state to position the state as a top medical destination include the establishment of world-class health facilities and programmes including the state health insurance scheme which has been adjudged to be the best in Nigeria.
Gov Dickson Inspecting Drugs
The purpose of the Drugs Distribution Centre in the state is to check and frustrate the menace of fake and adulterated drugs not only in Bayelsa state but in the whole of the Niger Delta region. He calls on Nigerians to patronize health institutions in the country rather than going abroad for treatment. He assured that Bayelsa state is well equipped in both personnel and facilities to meet the needs of Nigerians requiring medical attention.
“This state is ripe for medical business. If you are thinking of doing anything serious in the health sector, this is where you come because apart from the several world class facilities we have built, we also have a health insurance scheme that is so robust and will get better with time”. The governor said
“I call for more support by all and sundry for this drug distribution centre. The whole purpose is to have a place where genuine drugs can be obtained in our state and beyond Bayelsa. It is also meant to serve other states around us.

“I am pleased with the report I have received and I want to direct that all public health care facilities in the state to compulsorily procure their drugs and other medical products from this centre. It will be wrong for any public facility to procure drugs from any place other than this drug centre because we want to be sure that they are genuine.
“And I hereby direct the acting head of service and the commissioner for health to ensure that appropriate circulars are issued to all those in charge of public health care facilities in the state,” Dickson said.
