Edo State in Progress
The first housing estate in Edo state in the last 16 years is coming on stream even as plans have been concluded for the groundbreaking ceremony to be performed by the Vice-President of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osinbajo in the next two weeks.
The 1,800 unit houses are to be constructed through a joint venture between the Edo State government represented by the Edo Development and Property Agency EDPA and MIXTA Africa, a private real estate developer.
Executive Chairman of EDPA Isokpen Omo revealed that the agency and MIXTA would get the site of the of the project ready for the ceremony. She gave assurance that this will not be a white elephant project but one which would surely be built and completed in record time.
Isokpen said “we are committed to this project. I want to assure the people that we will deliver on our promises. The project is going to be a major pull for residents and those in the diaspora to invest in a bespoke real estate in Benin.
“We hereby assure that some level of structures will be on the ground for the ceremony by the Vice-President. This is to show how serious the state government and MIXTA Africa are to deliver on the project”.
The EDPA boss added that about 30 pioneer property owners would be selected for the first 30 houses to be constructed in the estate through balloting and the numbers of owners would increase to 200 units within one year.
Head of Sales and Marketing MIXTA Africa also revealed the high interest shown for the housing project by several interested subscribers both within the country and in the diaspora. He expressed confidence that the houses would be fully subscribed by would-be owners.
He equally assured on the commitment of the developer to deliver on the project while assuring on the high quality of the houses billed to be built and deliver.
It would be recalled that the Edo state governor in keeping with his campaign promises recently revealed plans by the state to construct a total of 1,800 units of houses in Benin city to increase the stock of houses in the state.
A Typical Housing Estate
The Housing estate said to a joint venture between the state government and a private developer MIXTA Africa will see an estate established in the state for the first time in 16 years.
The housing estate to be sited in the outskirts of Benin City specifically in Egba and Ukhiri communities in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of the state have already received massive support from the traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth groups in the affected communities.
