The Delta state government under the leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is focusing on the development and use of tourism to diversify her economy and drive the transformation of the state from mono oil based to a multi-economy.
To achieve this laudable vision the state government has evolved a template for the development of tourism in the state by means of a Public Private Partnership PPP model.

To this end, the state government has made an urgent call on investors both within and outside Nigeria to take advantage of its huge but unutilized facilities scattered all over the state.
The Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Mr. Emmanuel Chinye revealed to newsmen within the week that the move is part of the government effort to harness the huge economic potential of the sector which he described as “untapped goldmine”.
To achieve this vision, the commissioner revealed that the ease of doing tourism-related business in the state has been liberalized. The state is currently putting together all the tourist sites located within it in order to present a credible feasibility study to any prospective investors.
According to the commissioner “we have a lot, you must have heard of the River Ethiope believed to be the deepest inland waterway in Africa which is popular internationally.
“The source of the river is at a place called Umuaja in Delta. We have been able to provide a ranch and some huts at the site. Now we need to provide a chalet with internet services there so that people can come in and stay for as long as they want the commissioner” added.
The Director of tourism in the state, Ms. Eseroghene lauded the effort of the state governor in developing and repositioning tourism in the state. She disclosed that with the support of the governor and the foundation laid in tourism development it is just a matter of time before Delta state explodes into the national and international tourism scene.
Delta state is blessed with some fascinating sites and scenery that can be turned into world famous tourism location if properly branded and developed. Among such sites is Araya Bible site in Isoko Local Government Area of the state.
Others are Abraka Turf and Country club at Abraka, River Ethiope Water Source at Umuaja, Ukwuani. Asaba Beach at Otuogu, and Kwale Games Reserve.
