Buhari & Adeshina

The proposed visit of President Buhari to Rivers state is gathering storm as the two main opposition parties in the state the APC and PDP are daggers drawn as to the motive behind such move.

While the state governor Nyesom Wike is accusing the APC led federal government of organising the visit to discredit his administration insisting that the state is safe and secure. The Presidency, on the other hand, is insisting that there is, in fact, a security crisis in the state which warrants the President visit.

But Wike said there is no such thing in the state, as a few criminals who fomented trouble in some parts of the state were contained. On a lighter note, Wike observed that the President may be persuaded to come to the state to wake up his party the APC since it is dead in the state.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State

Wike said: “They say the President is coming to our state. I have not been told the President is coming and why he is coming. He has the right to go to any state. Maybe the President is coming to improve the fortunes of the APC that is dead in Rivers State. “Apart from Jesus Christ, we don’t know of anyone who raised a dead thing. APC is a dead party in Rivers State.

No matter how you fast and pray, it will never wake up. “Let nobody bother himself or herself that the President is coming for security reasons. We don’t have security challenges in the state. We have never had herdsmen killings or crisis in the state, except when some criminals tried to disrupt the peace and they were checked. We resolved that challenge.”

Presidential Spokesman Femi Adeshina in an interview over the weekend, however, disagreed with the governor. According to him, the President wants to visit Rivers state to condole with victims of cult’s killings and several other killings in the state. He recalled that the President did the same thing in his recent visit to Benue, Plateau, Taraba and Adamawa states.

According to Adeshina “if he (Wike) doesn’t understand, the rest of the country understands. We understand other Nigerians understand. Even people in Rivers state understand because on New Year/New Year Day a minimum of 24 people was killed in Omoku.

“So is that not a crisis? Can you count the number of people that have been beheaded in Rivers state in recent times?.

“People will be killed and heads will be cut off and the assailants will go ahead with the heads, so can anybody say that there is no security issue in that kind of place?. It is left for the governor; he is the chief security officer in the state. If he says there is no security issue in the state then good luck to him” said Adeshina
