Senator Douye Diri Winner of the Polls
The Peoples Democratic Party PDP has concluded its governorship primary election in Bayelsa state with senator Douye Diri representing Bayelsa Central senatorial district emerging the winner.
The Senator trounced his closest rival Chief Ndutimi Alaibe, a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC to emerged victorious.
The PDP primary election was held on Tuesday to choose a candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election in the state scheduled for November 2019. It has in its attendance former President Goodluck Jonathan as well as the current governor of the state Hon Seriake Dickson as well as many other stakeholders of the party.
Out of a total of 1244 accredited delegates that participated in the poll, Senator Douye Diri polled 561 votes while Chief Ndutimi Alaibe polled 365 votes. The election which started at about 11.30 p.m on Tuesday night came to a close at about 5 a.m on Wednesday morning.
While commending the delegates and the entire organizing committee for the peaceful conduct of the election the chairman of the electoral committee and governor of Taraba state, Darius Ishaku declared that having met all the conditions and garnered the highest number of votes Senator Douye was the winner.
“I commend your peaceful disposition before, during and after the election, and the security agencies for providing adequate security for a peaceful, fair and credible exercise.”
Governor Ishaku wishes the winner, success as he prepares for the forthcoming gubernatorial election. “I wish you (Senator Douye) good luck as you proceed to represent PDP in the general election. I want to plead with all of those who participated in the primary election to come together and work as a team so that the state can continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
