Late Lionel Jonathan Omo
Tragedy has befallen a prominent member of the All Progressive Congress APC in Bayelsa State. Chief Lionel Jonathan Omo is reported to have fallen off from his two storey building and smashed his body on the basement floor in his country home in Beleu Pogo in Ogbolomabiri, Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The unfortunate incident occurred when the politician complained of dizziness and in a bid to support himself misstep his position and fell off the balcony while attempting to hold on to the pillars.
His wife is reported to have heard the bang on the floor and later discovered it was her husband who lay helpless on the floor. He was subsequently rushed to a local hospital in Bayelsa and later transferred to University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for further medical attention.
On arrival in the teaching hospital, he was operated upon immediately but unfortunately, he did not survive the operation thereby unsettling his immediate family members, friends and associates alike with his demise.

The death of the prominent politician was to draw reactions from within and outside the state with a majority of the royal fathers within the deceased clan paying glowing tribute to his exemplary and dedicated lifestyle.
Several sympathisers were seen gathering around the deceased country home with many commenting on his exit as a sad loss to the Nembe Kingdom. Among the chiefs from Nembe Council of Chiefs who described the deceased death as a big shock is Chief Nengi James who is a member of the Nembe Traditional Council of Chiefs and the State Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organisation.
The All Progressive Congress APC also reacted to the news of the death of the politician describing it as shocking and an indescribable loss of an ally and a colossus with valued knowledge and experience most needed in today’s political life.
In a statement in Yenagoa, the state Publicity Secretary of the APC Mr Doifie Buokoribo said “Jonathan Omo broke his limb in a fall and fought bravely for his life in a private hospital in Port Harcourt to recover from the injuries he sustained during the fall. Unfortunately, he never survives them.

“The Chief died on Thursday after an unsuccessful operation. All of us had hope that Jonathan Omo would recover from his injuries and get on with his life, particularly at this time of intense political activities in our state and country when his experience and wisdom are seriously needed.
A biography of the late politician revealed that he was a Lawyer and a law lecturer at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt for many years before resigning into the politics. He was also a former commissioner in Bayelsa State.
The late Omo is perhaps best remembered as a Deputy-Director General of the Sylva/Igiri Campaign Organisation. He was a fervent APC party stalwart who will be greatly missed not only in Bayelsa State but also in the Neighbouring Rivers State.
