The Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel has called on the United States of America to assist the state to transform to a developed city state. The governor while hosting the United States Ambassador to Nigeria who visited him in Uyo, the state capital made this plea with a firm believed in the capabilities of American investors to change a society.Governor

Governor Udom listed out key cardinal areas of co-operation and support he expects from the Americans which includes technology transfer, education, skills, and investment.

The Governor reiterated the readiness of the state to transform into the world class city. To attract the needed investment he listed the presence of good infrastructure such as good road network, effective and reliable security network as well as effective legislation that guarantees the rule of law in the state.

Governor Udom informed the American Ambassador also of the abundance natural and human resources that the state is endowed with and called on him to showcase these potentials to his fellow citizens in America.

The Governor submitted that apart from Crude Oil and Gas, Akwa Ibom State is an investor’s paradise in areas of tourism, agriculture, information technology as well as manufacture of essential articles.


It is worthy of note that Akwa – Ibom State is home to Exxon Mobil oil Company, which is America’s biggest oil and gas company and which has been operating there for over 20 years. The presence of the oil giant in the state has attracted a significant number of expatriate workers from America to the state and has also livened up the socio-economic life of the Eket community where the operational base and terminal is located.

Governor Udom is using the presence of the oil firm to press for more investment and presence of other American companies with a testimony that his state is already familiar to housing and sustaining American businesses.
