Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the worship centre, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel stated that the purpose of building the centre was in furtherance of the vision of the founding fathers of the state in naming the State after God and dedicating all the lives, assets, activities, future of the state to God Almighty for preservation, protection, and progress.

He revealed that the centre is set to be the pivot of all religious activities in and outside the state. The governor said it was a privilege and honour to raise an altar for the Lord and a place to worship and glorify his name. This worship centre explains the Governor is planned as a denominational and inter-ethnic or tribal place of worship.

Governor Udom Emmanuel Initiated the Project

Quoting copiously from the book of Psalms, chapter 127 the governor stated that what the state has done by building an altar for the lord is to lay a foundation for God’s blessing and progress in the state.

According to the Governor “We have found favour in the eyes of the Lord, and it’s instructive to note that religious bodies, non-profit organisations and even individuals from all over the world heeded our call for support to actualized this dream”.

According to the Governor, “today, we stand tall to say that we have secured the bulk funds needed for the construction of the 8,500 capacity international worship centre which is located in Uyo. Governments contribution is a very negligible percentage.”

Adeboye Laid the Foundation Stone

He, however, stressed that the funding is not fully guaranteed as more funds are needed to completely finish the edifice. He, therefore, called on corporate organisations, nongovernmental organizations NGOs and individuals to contribute to the building project assuring them that their contribution will be a sacred commitment to the establishing God’s unique presence in the state.

Governor Udom expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN and other religious groups in the state and in the country for their support for the project and thanked Pastor Adeboye for honouring the invitation to lay the foundation stone of the building.

In his sermon, Pastor E. A, Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God commended the Government of Udom Emmanuel for putting God first in all the state endeavours especially for building a place of worship for God in the state. Adeboye said God is a master builder who works in partnership with men and rewards those who partner with him to build his temple.

Adeboye further assured the people and government of the state that just like Peter in the Bible, who lent his boat to Jesus Christ for evangelism and was greatly rewarded with a harvest of fishes, God will surely reward all those who will make the new worship centre a reality.
