This Man Sold His 2-Year-Old Son
In a typical modern day slave deal a father Mr. Abraham Moses Udo, last week sold his (2) two-year-old son Master Elisha Udo for a princely sum of N150,000. Fortunately for the young boy, the mother of the boy reported the matter to the police who arrested the culprit. On interrogation, he confessed to selling the boy to an unidentified woman in Uyo, the capital of neighbouring Akwa Ibom State, for the sum of N150, 000.
The Cross River State Police Command paraded the suspect who is 52 years old in Calabar last week while briefing the press on the activities of his command and the effort of the police in the state to rid the society of criminals.
The police commissioner, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa explained that the unfortunate incident was reported to the command by the suspect’s wife and mother of the boy Madam Ester Abraham Udo in the Uwanse Police station in Calabar South Local Government Area of the State.
Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the father actually sold his son to an unidentified woman in Uyo. It was further discovered that the illicit transaction was done without the consent or the knowledge of the boy’s mother. It was also disclosed by the police authorities that when the suspected child trafficker was searched and interrogated the sum of N105, 000.00 was recovered from him which sum is now seized and registered by the police as an exhibit.
The Police Commissioner also disclosed that effort is in progress to identify and arrest the buyer of the boy in Uyo and prosecute all the parties involved in the illegal transaction.
When cornered by pressmen to ascertain if he actually did sell his son, the suspect admitted to committing the offense and pleaded that it was driven by hunger and poverty. According to him” I sold the child because I needed money. I have six children. I am really sorry for not telling my wife about it” The suspect is billed to be charged to court as soon as police conclude their investigations.
