Niger Delta Women Grinding Cassava

The vulnerable groups consisting of women and youths in the Niger Delta continue to attract attention and assistance from various government and non-governmental agencies in Nigeria and abroad.

This time around the Federal Ministry for Niger Delta Affairs is partnering with more than 5 government agencies to mobilise and empower Niger Delta women and youths. Among the agencies involved is The Federal Ministry for Women Affairs and Social Development, Bank of Industry BOI and Industrial Training Fund ITF.

Others include Small and Medium Scale Enterprises SMSE and other relevant government and non-governmental agencies. The partnerships envisaged among the agencies are to empower various women and youths who are being trained in various fields of enterprises.

This revelation was made by the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs Professor Claudius Daramola at Ibadan Polytechnic during the graduation ceremony of 50 Niger Delta women who graduated from one-month training in confectioneries and household technology in the institution.

The aim of the collaboration according to Daramola is to help eliminate duplication of efforts and streamlined human development capacity in the region for optimum results. To this end the design and implementation of a database consisting of the details of trained and empowered people in the Niger Delta are imperative.

The database to be developed will enable the tracking and capture of beneficiaries for future intervention programmes, funding, and empowerment. According to the Minister, the federal government is more than determined and committed to empowering both the Niger Delta women and the youths in the region through vocational training and empowerment.

Various Training Programmes for Niger Deltans

 

The federal government has over the year’s intensified efforts in training and empowering the youths and women in the Niger Delta through organized programmes and intervention projects anchor by the three major intervention agencies in the region.

The three agencies being the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, the office of the Presidential Amnesty Programme PAP for the rehabilitation of ex-militants and the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
