Gov Wike Commission ‘Operation Sting’
Operation Sting is our own specialized security initiative anchored on an integrated and coordinated approach fully funded by the Rivers state government to effectively tackle both the sources and drivers of insecurity.”
These were the words of determination from the Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike while announcement the coming into effect the security apparatus sponsored by the state government coded name ‘operation sting’.
The security initiatives launched comprised of about 72 operational vehicles fitted with telecommunication gadgets, 8 armored fitted gunboats, 2 Armoured Personnel carriers for police swift response actions, 450 handheld mobile radios to enhance communications among the security operatives among others were donated to the security agents.
Speaking at the Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt, Venue of the Launch, Wike re-iterated his administration resolved to combat criminalities in the state headlong and guarantee peace and security to the indigenes.
The governor in his speech warned criminals in the state to change and become useful tools in the society otherwise they will face the full wrath of the law. Explaining the new security initiative the governor said it would eventually cover all the nooks and crannies of the state.

He implored the securities agencies who are partners and personnel of the security initiatives to be alive to their responsibilities and to make effective use of the logistics arrangement put in place by the Rivers state government.
Continuing, Governor Wike said, “The Operation Sting” is also to fight every against every security threat to our state, our persons and our properties in order to create the right social environment to drive our development.
“Under Operation Sting we have taken concrete steps to strengthen the logistics and operational capability of the civil and armed security forces,” he said.
Assuring the Governor of the readiness of the police to collaborate and support the security initiative of the Rivers state governor the Police Commissioner, Mustapha Dandaura said the equipment and facilities will be optimally utilized to achieve the desired result in the next one month.
The Garrison Commander of 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Adeola Kalejaiye on behalf of other security chiefs pledged total support and commitment towards the initiative assuring that the security operatives will work together towards riding the states of criminals.
